Federal and State Government Information

The Fresno County Public Library is a depository library for both Federal and State government documents. As a Federal depository, the Library houses Government documents distributed by the U.S. Government Publishing Office through the Federal Depository Library Program. The Library is a selective Federal depository, receiving only Federal documents that the Library has selected to meet the government information needs of Central Valley residents. The Library has been a Federal depository since 1920, making it the oldest depository library in the Central Valley.

The Fresno County Public Library has been a depository for California state documents since 1945, when the Library Distribution Act first established the California State Depository Library Program. The Library is a complete depository for state documents, which means it receives a copy of every state publication (as defined in the LDA). It is the only complete California State depository in the Central Valley.
