About the Government Documents Department

The Fresno County Public Library has been a depository for California and the U.S. government documents since 1920, making it the oldest depository library in the Central Valley.

The Library is a complete depository for state documents and a selective depository for federal documents. We receive one of everything distributed by the California agencies and offices and approximately 45 percent of all documents distributed by the U.S. Government Printing Office.

The Government Documents Department currently houses over one million documents and is located at the Fresno Central Library in downtown Fresno.
