Facilities Projects
Several library facility projects are currently underway across Fresno County as the Fresno County Public Library continues investing in its buildings and infrastructure. The majority of the funding for these projects comes from Measure B, the voter approved one eighth cent sales tax dedicated to supporting Fresno County Public Library facilities, programs, and services. Together, these efforts reflect the Library's ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, accessible, and modern spaces for the communities it serves while ensuring Measure B funds are invested responsibly across the County's library system.

The Selma Library remains temporarily closed while major improvements to the building are completed. While the reopening date has not yet been determined, the Fresno County Public Library anticipates the Selma library, like the new Leo Politi Library, will open in the middle of this year.
The Selma Library has served the community from its current location for more than 45 years, and the renovation project focuses on maintaining and improving the facility so it can continue serving residents for years to come.
The work includes several major upgrades to the building's infrastructure and public spaces. Improvements include installation of a new roof, a new fire protection system, new exterior siding, restroom renovations to meet ADA accessibility standards, and new flooring throughout the facility. Together, these improvements will enhance the building's functionality, accessibility, and long-term durability.
Additional improvements include an expanded meeting room that will provide more space for library programs and community gatherings, new shelving to support the library's collection, and all new furniture for both staff work areas and public spaces. The updated furnishings will include study carrels and workstations for individual use, reading tables and seating areas throughout the library, and display shelving to highlight books and materials. Dedicated furnishings for children and teens will also create welcoming areas for younger visitors, including activity tables, comfortable seating, and collaborative spaces designed to support reading, studying, and everyday library use.
The budgeted amount for the Selma Library renovation project is just over $3.3 million.

The Fresno County Public Library is converting a former Rite Aid building into the future Leo Politi Library, creating a significantly larger and modern space for library services. The library has served the community from its current location for more than 50 years, and the new facility will provide additional space to better serve the community. When complete, the Leo Politi Library will become the third largest library in the Fresno County Public Library system, which includes 33 locations throughout the county.
Renovation of the building is already underway. New flooring has been installed throughout the facility, and a new staff workspace has been created to support daily library operations. Additional improvements currently underway include a quiet room, meeting room, and study rooms, expanding the types of spaces available to patrons of the Leo Politi Library.
Furnishings and interior fixtures to outfit the building will include new book shelving, a front service desk, self-checkout stations, and computer workstations. The library will also feature a variety of seating and activity areas designed to support different types of library use, including comfortable reading lounges, collaborative tables for studying and group work, and flexible seating areas throughout the building.
Dedicated spaces are being designed for teens and children. The children's area will include interactive play and reading features, low shelving for easy access to materials, and seating designed for families and young readers. The teen area will include collaborative seating, study tables, and flexible furniture intended to support both independent study and group activities. The new Leo Politi Library project was made possible through the diligent advocacy of the Friends of the Politi Library, whose work helped secure the new location for the community.
The budget for the new Leo Politi Library renovation project is $1,380,00.00. While an exact opening date has not yet been determined, the Fresno County Public Library anticipates the Leo Politi Library will open in the middle of this year.

Construction began in the fourth quarter of 2025 on two new library buildings in Clovis and Reedley.
Both projects will replace existing library buildings with modern, purpose-built facilities designed to better serve growing communities, providing expanded space for library collections, reading areas, technology access, and community programming.
The Clovis Library, once completed, will become the largest library in the Fresno County Public Library system. The Reedley Library project will triple the size of the current library building, significantly expanding space for library services, collections, and community use. The budget for the Clovis Regional Library is $25 million and the budget for the Reedley Library is just under $14 million.
As with any major construction project, timelines can shift as work progresses. An estimated opening date has not yet been established, and the Fresno County Public Library will continue providing updates as construction moves forward.
