Adult and Family Literacy Services

Learner-Centered Scheduled services both in person and virtual.

Who are we?

Fresno County Public Library Literacy Services is a partnership of adult learners and their families, specially trained local volunteers, literacy services staff and library staff.

What do we do?

We offer free literacy services for individuals experiencing low literacy and their families. Adults must be able to retain information. All Family Literacy programs' parents or caregivers must participate in and be engaged.

How can you help?

Contact us about exciting volunteer opportunities.

How do we do the work?

With the help of dedicated volunteers and partners sites.
Volunteers are interested in working with adults and their families to reach "Adult learners'" goals.
We are always looking for volunteers who are interested in making a difference in our community.

Our guiding ethos

Ask questions
Figure out what time people want and are able to meet.
Understand the power of "YET" (i.e. "We are not there yet")
This is what we can do right now.
Based on our ethos, we practice "learning and growing" seasons.

Learning seasons

There are many learning opportunities. We have programs on various subjects and topics both public and private, published, and unpublished learning opportunities.
Routinely check our calendar to see what we are up to.

Growing seasons

Allow our adult learners to apply what they have learned. Having the chance to reflect and apply the skills they have acquired during the learning season allows adults to become lifelong learners. They realize that they are ready for the next step, the next book, adult school, pursuing their high school diploma, going for the new job.
It is during the growing season that we encourage our learners to evaluate their next steps in their lifelong learning process.
