In the fourth book in Robert Crais’ hot series, Elvis Cole is back and better than ever. The Los Angeles based detective is hired by a beautiful woman in distress, Jennifer Sheridan. Jennifer is sure that her boyfriend is in trouble and seeks out Cole to discover what that could be. It seems a straightforward investigation until he starts to realize that the boyfriend, a Los Angeles plain clothes detective, does not want to be helped. Cole, with the help of his partner Joe Pike nevertheless investigates and unravels clues that lead to the uncovering of a ring of dirty cops. Things go from bad to worse when Jennifer and her boyfriend are targeted for termination, and Cole and Joe are framed. This is a fast-paced exciting read and is sure to make the reader want to pick up the rest of the series.
