Who are we?

Fresno County Public Library Literacy Services is a partnership of specially trained local volunteers.

What do we do?

We offer free literacy services for individuals and families.

  • Adult Literacy:

Fresno County Adults who utilize our services meet with specially trained tutors one-on-one at least once a week to develop skills in reading, writing, spelling, and math.
  • Families for Literacy:

As an extension of our Adult Literacy program, we offer specialized activities and education for our Adult Learners who have children ages five and under. Participants receive education and resources to help them prepare their children for Kindergarten.
  • Conversation Circles:

For English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), in addition to one-on-one tutoring, Conversation Circles are additional opportunities for Learners to practice their conversational skills. Facilitated by trained volunteers, these small groups (3-5 individual) meet for one hour a week in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.
  • Mobile Literacy:

The Mobile Literacy unit is based on the West Side of Fresno County, travelling to communities like Mendota, Tranquillity, San Joaquin, Five Points, Halfway, Oro Loma, and Cantua Creek. Mobile Literacy staff is bilingual in English and in Spanish. The goal is to assist the parents and caregivers in preparing their children age 0 (before birth) up to age 5 for school entry and success. Workshops for families promoting early literacy, learning and parenting skills are offered. Call 559-301-6097 for more information.
