Naming Opportunities

Collections of Books and Materials

Opportunities for enhancing the collections of books and other materials for the Library are as limitless as the wide world, and the sum of human knowledge. Your gift may be used to purchase books and materials in genres of your choice. From children’s literature to philosophy, from history to science fiction, anything that contributes to the educational, informational and/or recreational reading needs of library patrons may be purchased with your gift.

All books purchased with your gift will have a gift plate recognizing your generosity unless you request otherwise.

William Saroyan Collection. The Library holds one of the major collections of materials documenting the career and writings of Fresno’s own world renowned author, William Saroyan. Your gift may be used to enhance the collection, to organize and index it, and to develop means for making this resource more accessible to our community.

History & Genealogy. To preserve the history and heritage of Fresno County and the Central Valley, the Library established the California History and Genealogy Room at the central library in 1993. Your gift may be used to enhance the collection of this room.

San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Foothills Photo Heritage. The Library is involved in a regional effort to provide access to a current collection of 3,000 local history photographs via the internet. Your gift may be used to enhance the collection and to continue to make it available on the internet.

The Virtual Library. Your gift may be used to enhance the collection of online research materials and services that are made available free of charge to residents in the convenience of their homes and offices. Whether it is an answer to a business question you seek, or your children or grandchildren need to do research for their homework or school projects, the virtual library is available “24/7”.

Cultural and Literary Programs for Adults
Adult programming areas that are suitable for giving include the Library’s Adult Literacy Tutoring and Families for Literacy programs.

Central Library Projects

The Central Library has less than one-fourth the space needed to provide adequate services for the population that it serves. Planning is underway for the construction of a new main library in downtown Fresno to serve all the residents of Fresno County. Naming opportunities exist for your gift towards the construction of a new central library. For more information about naming opportunities, please contact Pat Pondexter, Interim County Librarian, 559-488-3185 Pat.Pondexter**fresnolibary.org (replace ** with @ to send email).

Branch Library Projects

The Fresno County Public Library classifies branch libraries according to the populations that they serve.

Regional Branch Libraries. Current regional libraries at Sunnyside, Fig Garden, and Clovis are inadequate in size and/or amenities. To equitably serve the metropolitan area, regional libraries need to replace neighborhood libraries at Cedar-Clinton, Gillis, Politi, and Mosqueda. Additional new regional libraries are needed for Clovis, Northwest Fresno, and Southeast Fresno. Naming opportunities exist for your gift towards the construction, enlargement, and/or remodeling of regional branch libraries.

Rural regional libraries are needed to replace branches in Reedley, Sanger and Selma.

Branches. Rural branches need to expand and/or replace libraries in Auberry, Easton, Parlier, Mendota, and Kerman.

Neighborhood Libraries. New libraries are needed to expand and/or replace neighborhood libraries in Firebaugh, Fowler, Ivy Center, Orange Cove, Riverdale, and San Joaquin. In addition to a needed regional branch for Cedar-Clinton, a neighborhood library branch is needed to serve this area.

A new library will be needed in the near future for the Millerton New Town area, and an expansion of the Bear Mountain branch at Squaw Valley is needed.

Stations. The Library categorizes those locations serving the smaller populations as Stations. New facilities are needed to replace stations in Big Creek, Piedra, Pinedale, Shaver Lake, and Tranquillity.

New library stations are needed for Biola, Del Rey, and Miramonte. An additional station is needed to serve the dense Clovis area population.
