Fund Raising and Activities
Fund Raising Activities
In addition to receiving donations and membership dues,
Friends sponsors Special Fund Raising Events, which have traditionally included:
- Monthly Used Book Sales
- Bi-Annual "Children's Party"
- Intermittent "Murder in the Library", presentations by authors of mysteries, proceeds from which are used to enhance the Library's mystery collection.
- Annual Event at the Theater
- Mail Campaign for business reference books.
- "Dinner in the Library," proceeds from which are usually deposited to the Endowment Fund
Memorial Gifts
Memorial Gifts to Friends of the Library, unless
otherwise specified, go to the Endowment Fund. Initiated
in 1988, this restricted fund is expected to grow until it can provide
ongoing assistance to the Library.
Non Fund Raising Activities
- "Coffee 'n' Books" is a series of meetings which authors or literary specialists, which is free to members and open to others for a small fee.
- Traditionally, Friends hosts a "Volunteer Reception" each year to help the Library honor the many individuals who have volunteered a combined total of thousands of hours working in different branches and departments of the Library.
- Each January at the Annual Meeting, which is usually followed by an Author's Luncheon, two important events occur: Friends who have helped with projects and/or served as directors or officers of the organization are recognized, and the Friends' Annual Gift, a check for the total amount of money collected during the year which has not already been turned over to the Library, is presented to the County Librarian.
